Toni Whited Visits VGSF and Receives Honorary Doctorate from WU Vienna
We were delighted to host Toni Whited, Professor of Economics at the University of Michigan, at the VGSF from May 11 to 22, 2026. It was an exciting two-week visit during which she taught her course on Financial Econometrics, continuing a long-standing tradition.
During her stay, Toni also received an honorary doctorate from WU Vienna. Toni Whited: „It is a great honor to receive an honorary doctorate from WU Wien. After nearly two decades of teaching here, I have come to value the intellectual generosity of its faculty and the curiosity of its students more than I can easily express. My sincere thanks to the university for this recognition“.
Honorary doctorates are among the highest honors universities can bestow, and they are reserved for individuals who have distinguished themselves through exceptional academic achievements.
In addition to her teaching, she delivered a Brown Bag seminar on „Strategic Bankruptcy and Corporate Negligence“, further enriching our academic environment.
We were also pleased to welcome her teaching assistant, Ellen Longman (PhD student at Duke University), as well as visiting PhD student Yazhen Luo (PhD student in Finance at Lancaster University), who joined the VGSF community during this period.
As always, it was a special privilege for our VGSF students not only to attend Toni’s lectures but also to present their research ideas and receive her valuable feedback.
